The Dover Running Series 10K has been created as an exciting opportunity to showcase the modernisation of the centuries-old Citadel; the UK's largest fortress from the Napoleonic era, set in the historic beauty of Dover. 

The Citadel has reinvented itself over recent years, now standing evermore proudly at the highest point of Dover, home to a cultural variety of arts and innovation, as a beacon for the regeneration of the seaside town.

Dover Running Series 10k starts within the Citadel’s iconic gated entrance and then leads participants on a multi-terrain journey, taking in Dover’s natural beauty and historical landscape.  The race offers participants a broad view of Dover, including the Napoleonic Fortifications nestled into the stunning hills of the Western Heights, Dover Castle and St. Martin’s Battery, to name just a few.  Depending on the weather, runners may also catch a glimpse of France across the world’s busiest shipping lane.

This route is absolutely packed with history, and we strongly advise that you take the time either before or after the race to explore the area in greater depth. The final stretch of the race takes participants through the Citadel’s giant revetment. Refreshments will be available at the finish line.  All finishers can look forward to receiving an exclusive event medal.

Once you have paid for your entry, we are not able to offer any refunds or transfers of your entry to another person.


We do understand that things can change. We will accept withdrawals from the race at any time up to 00:00 on 17th September 2023. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer refunds, so if you do need to withdraw for any reason before this date, you will be issued a credit of the full entry value, less a 10% admin fee.  This credit voucher code can be used towards entry to a future Hellfire events race or merchandise. After the 17th of September, we are unable to offer any credit or refunds. All credit vouchers are valid for 12 months from the date of issue.


For safety reasons, we do not allow you to transfer your entry to another person at any time. The person taking part in the event must be the person entered and you may be asked to prove your identity at registration.

  • The 2023 Citadel 10k is set to start at 10:00 on Sunday 1st October 2023. You will be allocated your start time based on the information you provide upon entry.
  • Registration will be located at the reception building just outside The Citadel, Citadel Road, Dover CT17 9DR.
  • There are public toilets available at the registration point.
  • Some areas of the Citadel are not accessible if you require help with mobility. For more information, please contact The Citadel.
  • Free parking on site – please follow any directional signage and information from marshals. Please do not park inconsiderately.
  • Registration is open from 08:00 and will close promptly at 09:50. Follow the signs to Registration from the car park.
  • There is a bus stop outside the Citadel for anyone arriving by public transport.  It is recommended that you check the times on Stagecoach
  • The nearest train station is Dover Priory, which is 1 mile from the Citadel. It is recommended that you check the times on Southeastern Railway.
  • Race safety briefings will be e-mailed to you as part of the entry process.
  • Access to the start line is restricted and we therefore ask that once you enter the area, you do not leave it.  Access to the starting area will open at 09:40.
  • Presentation of prizes for the winners will take place between 11:00 & 11:30.


Cut Off Times

  • We appreciate this is a challenging course, so we have allotted plenty of time for the race. The cut-off is at 14:00 and you must finish before this time to be recognised as an official race finisher.
  • It is our ambition to see every participant finish this event.  However, in the interest of the safety of all runners, additional cut-off points may be applied on the day.


Mandatory Kit 

  • We advise that you wear appropriate footwear for the weather conditions and terrain. Please be advised that parts of the route become very muddy when wet.
  • Please Note: Additional items of the kit may be added based on expected weather conditions. If necessary, we will advise you via social media in the days leading up to the event. If you haven't already can you please follow us on Instagram and Facebook


  • All participants must follow the guidance of marshals at all times.
  • If we believe the safety of participants or the public is being compromised in any way, Hellfire Events Ltd reserve the right to stop you from competing in this event at any time. 
  • All participants must be at least 16 years old on the race day. 
  • Support Runners are not permitted on the route at this event. 
  • Walking & Running poles are not permitted.
  • Headphones are not permitted.
  • You must stick to the marked route at all times.
  • Dogs are not allowed to participate in this event.
  • Littering of any kind will not be tolerated. 
  • Abusive behaviour of any kind will not be tolerated. 
  • If someone requires non emergency medical assistance you must notify the Race Director on the number provided within your race pack. If someone requires emergency medical assistance then you must contact the emergency services by calling 999 then call the Race Director. In both instances you must stay with the individual until help arrives.
  • The route use public footpaths so courtesy sound be given to other users at all times.

  • If you need to drop out for whatever reason, you MUST inform Race Control.
  • If you are dropping out for a medical reason, please contact the Medical Director.
  • Any runner unable to make it to the finish must inform a marshal of their intention to withdraw and will then be taken back to Race Control by a marshal from the nearest safe point.



  • In the interest of safety, we advise all spectators to avoid the footpaths around the perimeter of the Citadel and Western Heights between 10:00 and 14:00.
